Description: The Houston Public Library Foundation is seeking a full-time Development Director. This new position will nurture existing fundraising programs by managing the development process while following industry ethical standards and best practices. The ideal candidate will thrive in a diverse and fast-paced environment, has a proven track record in fundraising management, and communicates well with a variety of individuals. Responsibilities: The Development Director will implement targeted cultivation plans, solicitation strategies, and stewardship activities to reach established organizational philanthropic goals of $6.7M. •Grow individual giving campaigns, including the Houston Lyceum Society, a group of generous major gift donors, and the Julia Ideson Legacy Society planned giving association. •Develop compelling grant proposals for corporate and foundation donors. •Organize support for the annual Beyond the Page luncheon and other fundraising activities/events. •Assess progress towards goals, prepare reports on fundraising, recommend revisions to the fundraising plan, as needed, to meet goals. •Contributes ideas that improve fundraising efforts, increase efficiency, and otherwise advance the growth of HPLF and the Library system. •Collaborate with and value our small professional team and cadre of key volunteers. •Willingness to perform tasks and duties that may not be specifically listed in the position description, but which are within the general occupational category associated with fund development activities, •Complies with HPLF policies and procedures in accordance with federal, state, and local laws.
Skills: Minimum Qualifications: The ideal candidate will thrive in a diverse and energetic environment, excel in fundraising campaign management, communicate with a variety of individuals, has skills with project and group management, and is a strategic thinker who can see big picture goals and translate that into tactical plans. •Bachelor’s degree required, •5+ years of professional fund development experience soliciting foundations, corporations, organizations, and individuals with demonstrated achievement of fundraising goals, •Computer fluency in MS Office, Raiser’s Edge software, and knowledgeable about the role of technology and electronic communication in fundraising, •Superior verbal and written communication skills, •Strong organizational abilities including planning, program development, and task facilitation, •Ability to work independently and as a member of a team, •Reliable transportation required. Working Conditions: Physical demands include occasional physical effort (moving boxes, signs, banners, etc. for fundraising events), sitting and use of computer monitor and keyboard for extended periods, travel to and from meetings in the greater Houston area with some evening and weekend hours. HPLF offices in HPL’s Julia Ideson Building, and parking is provided. Terms and Compensation: The position is full time with paid benefits. The starting salary is $55,000 annually.
